5 Tips For Becoming A More Healthy Entrepreneur

Written by , Posted in Business, Inspiration

I’ll admit: my weight has changed more times than Oprah’s over the past 5 years as an entrepreneur, and maybe some of you are experiencing the same ups-and-downs. Here are 5 suggestions I’ve implemented in life to help combat not only those extra pounds, but the fatigue that comes from pushing yourself a bit too far.

The standard long days at work and tight schedules that are associated with entrepreneurship can cause an entrepreneur to develop health problems such as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. This is according to an article published by Forbes magazine. With that in mind, here are five tips for becoming a more healthy entrepreneur:

Take Time Off Your Workstation
Do not remain glued to your workstation for hours. Take time to stretch a bit to avoid developing blood clots that could turn fatal later.

Get Rid of Energy Drinks
If you rely on energy drinks to stay up all night or remain focused for long periods, consider ditching them because they do not bode well for business health. In fact, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service (SAMHSA) has gone as far as warning consumers that energy drinks pose a real public health concern.

Healthy Diet
Many entrepreneurs live largely on snacks and unhealthy meals that contain too much fat and sugar. Such meals can increase your risk of developing type II diabetes and heart disease. Health experts recommend avoiding salty, fatty, and sugar-rich foods. Instead, maintain a diet that includes whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and plenty of healthy fluid like fresh juice and water.

Another way of staying healthy is by exercising regularly. Some of the simple exercises that you can squeeze into your tight schedule include jogging, swimming, cycling, hiking, and walking. Consider using an under-the-desk bicycle while working.

While some Silicon Valley legends may have spent many sleepless nights working on their dreams, sleep is vital for your overall wellbeing. More specifically, according to the National Institutes of Health, sleep deprivation can have a negative effect on the endocrine, immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. The NIH recommends no less than seven hours of sleep.

To become a more healthy entrepreneur, you should adopt healthy habits. These habits include getting at least seven hours of sleep, eating healthy, cutting back on energy drinks and taking time away from work once in a while. Also, be sure to get screening tests regularly to enjoy maximum good health.
